I know this is an ambiguous title, I am really referring to the color green rather than being "Green", of course anyone who buys vintage clothes from Pegasus Vintage or any other vintage clothes seller is being "Green" by wearing recycled clothes.

This is a little more extreme - recycled computer parts.
I would expect green clothes to go back a long way, because most plants are green and green based vegatable and plant dyes should be easy to produce, (think of all those grass stains on your clothes when you were little).

What does the wearing of green symbolise, other than St. Patricks day? Wearing green is the color of money, it is the symbol for "Go" and is supposed to be a good color for sales people. Dark green is seen as masculine and also for wealth. Medieval brides wore green to symbolise fertility. Green also is calming and reminds us of nature.

Green is a great color to wear to an interview as it is calming and reduces nervousness. It is also used as camouflage by the military again reinforcing closeness to nature.

In some cultures, green symbolizes hope and growth, while in others, it is associated with death, sickness, envy, or the devil. The most common associations, however, are found in its ties to nature. For example, Islam venerates the color, as it expects paradise to be full of lush greenery. Green is also associated with regeneration, fertility and rebirth for its connections to nature

In Elizabethan England the wearing of colors was dictated by the sumptuary laws, the shade of green that was worn was dictated by social class. Cheaper dyes produced the colors worn by the lower classes. The wearing of the color green was also associated with Robin Hood.

Green is also venerated in Islam and is thought to be the color of paradise. It was also worn by Christian priests. In Eastern Catholicism green is the color of Pentecost.
