I am writing this because I feel compelled to do it, I know that much of this will seem crazy to many people, that is fine. The title is random thoughts and these are the thoughts that I had at the beginning of this year.
Some of us started 2012 with a little fear and trepidation, this year is really supposed to be the end of the world and life as we know it. I started to think about exactly what this might mean and this is what I came up with.
I had this feeling that society might collapse and just a few people survive living in primitive circumstances. Stangely enough, what concerned me most, was the record that we are leaving for future generations. We are so dependent on digital media and electronics, that I started to think how useless most of this stuff is, without electricity and the means to paly the material back. The dead sea scrolls survived for centuries but what will happen to our knowledge?
What good are digital photographs, Mp 3's, computer programs and files without any means of playing them back? Imagine if all books are stored on computers and tablets instead of in print, how will the future generations learn from our experiences, that is after the catastrophic event of 2012?
I also started to think about the Government and how they probably already know what is going to happen. If they knew something , would they tell us? Of course not! Why would you want to get everyone worked up into a panic over something that cannot be avoided? If you knew this was happening; you might build a space station that can avoid the "event", or you might build an underwater city to house the best minds or you might build a city under a mountain or on a desolate plain. We can all think of likely places to do this.....however, I do not want to spend time speculating on this, I am not part of that elite Government group. Well there is no proof of this but I do believe that these ideas would make an interesting Sci Fi novel.
So what exactly is going to happen, there are a lot of theories, my favorite is that the earth gets hit or has a close encounter from another planet that has been hidden from view. the dark planet is on a huge orbit and is due to pass closest to earth in December of this year. The earth's magnetic field gets all messed up and the poles flip so areas that were not underwater become underwater and only a few people survive.
What are we going to do about it? We definitely cannot stop it, I don't think we have the technology to blast another planet out of our way. I hope that I am wrong about all of this, it is one of those great times to be wrong. Just in case this is the end, my plan for this year is to live each day as if it is my last. I intend to make good decisions, love those around me and enjoy my friends and family like never before. I hope you do too.
